Musings of Nico Tijsen

Nicolicious on paintings. We probably all have a few standing in the attic or in a cellar these kinds of paintings which don’t fit in a interior. This is a very nice way to spruce them up, just stitch some nice pieces of fabric on it and voilà, a new piece de resistance is born. In this example the sails are been covered with fabric sails, i can imagine his could also be done with a skirt of a lady etc. etc. The effect will get bigger when there are more paintings like this hanging together.

Nicolicious on rugs. Rugs are very importend in a living they blend the sitting area together. This example on the photo is made of sea grass and available in a wide variety of colours. The same effect can be achieved with sisal rugs or even woollen rugs. The golden rule for measuring a rug for your living room is: the sofa should not be on the edge as in the photo but, 1/3 underneath the sofa and minimal 40 cm sticking out on each side of the sofa { depending on the size of the sofa, if one has a very large sofa the carpet also has to grow.}

Deco tip: what a lovely way to serve a smoothie, a bamboo branch dubs as a shot glass.

Nicolicious on collecting: Collections of any kind can look rather messy in a well decorated house, the Nicolicious tip is, always concentrate the collection as one group. Like I did with this collection of globes.

Modern and classic, a nice combination. A fine combination of a classic moulding and curtains combined with an architectural reading lamp makes a nice and edgy combination.

Nicolicious on small garden: This charming petite garden which I came across has all the things we love at the Nicolicious HQ; there is dept, beautiful clipped topiary. And a nice combination of an old table combined with Starck chairs. How big or small the garden always try to focus on lines!

Table top: rule number 1,always iron tablecloth and napkins. In this Iittala setting I simply placed a glass votive on the folded napkin to add more charm to the setting. Simple and yet very effective.

Limes and tea lights are very nice to get a summer feeling into your house, the same effect can also be obtained by using lemons!

Step out of the circle: and paint the ceiling in the same colour as the wall. Like this picture which I took in an Italian restaurant. Very nice photo of Sofia Loren! I ones spend a night in a very well decorated bedroom which had wall and ceiling in a chocolate brown colour, and dear readers it was stunning.Like sleeping in a chocolate box!
